The new owner of the Shamrock Court motel near Sullivan, Missouri, has scheduled a one- or two-day volunteer cleanup effort and campout at the historic Route 66 property.
The cleanup will begin at 9 a.m. July 10 and may end the evening July 11.
Rich Dinkela, who announced in March he had the property under contract, wrote about the cleanup day on Facebook:
You’re invited to come help us make improvements at this Route 66 attraction. Work will include clean up of debris, removal of unwanted vegetation, and installation of new doors on the rooms. Dinkela oversaw another cleanup effort at the Shamrock last fall.
The giraffe-stone motel dates to the late 1940s and had been owned by the Weiland family for nearly 70 years. In the late 1970s, the motel was converted into efficiency apartments with living quarters for the longtime owners, John and Rose Weiland, until they died.
