New owners of Sunflower Station in Adrian reveal more plans for the site for 2023

The new owners of Sunflower Station next door to the landmark Midpoint Cafe in Adrian, Texas, announced plans for the site when they plan to reopen it in spring 2023, including placing guest cabins in the back of the property.

Jason and Kelly Snyder, enthusiasts of Route 66 and motorcycles, acquired the property last year and had planned to become full-time residents of Adrian by that fall.

The Snyders now say they’ll arrive in Adrian in October. Kelly wrote on Facebook:

“Now the season will be almost over but this will give us time to get it all together this winter and ready to open the doors come Spring of 2023. We can not tell you how excited we are to fulfill this dream that God has so graciously blessed us with. We have big plans for our little establishment and can’t wait to share it all with you.”

Kelly wrote in a follow-up comment about their plans:

We will open the station selling Route 66 memorabilia. We also will be putting Cabins outback making them each of their own special decor to represent the west and Route 66, we will rent them out as well. We will also serve food after 3 p.m. Of course because we don’t want to take away from the Diner. Food will be on a donation basis only because if you don’t have cash and your hungry you will be able to eat anyways, no cost. And we will be doing “Bunk a Biker”. This will be for bicyclists or bikers. They will be able to come to our place and pitch their tents on the property for free. God has blessed us and we want to bless others.

Fran Houser, the former longtime owner of the Midpoint Cafe, started the Sunflower Station gift shop in the former gas-station property after she sold the restaurant in 2012.

She put it up for sale two years later because she wished to travel more to see friends and family.
