The Smart Car Owners of Toronto blog has the story of Rupert Lloyd Thomas and his wife Annette driving a Smart car on all 2,300 miles of Route 66. They got about 50 miles per gallon and had a ball doing it.
By the way, the photograph on the site isn’t identified, but I can tell you it is a rare brick stretch of Route 66 near Auburn, Ill.

We covered over 8,900 miles and spent approx $375 US on diesel. We spent last winter reading about Route 66 and it did not disappoint.
