The American Giants Museum in Atlanta, Illinois, has added another very tall artifact.
This time, it’s the Viking Carpet giant, originally hailing from Virginia, that was installed at the Route 66 landmark. It was purchased two years ago and restored.
The Viking giant stands alongside the Phillips 66 Cowboy and a Snerd at the museum.
The Viking originally was scheduled to be installed on Memorial Day weekend, but its restorer encountered some delays.
The American Giants Museum tells the story of the kitschy and quirky Muffler Man fiberglass statues that popped up along roadsides in the 1960s as advertising gimmicks.
The American Giants Museum, which first opened to the public in 2023, is operated by the Atlanta Betterment Fund, a federally certified organization established in 2008 through private donations and administered by a board of directors. Its mission is to make Atlanta a better place to live by supporting local businesses, plus civic and religious organizations.
