Expert: Muffler Men seeing a resurgence across the U.S.

Joel Baker, an expert on the Muffler Men made in the 1960s and ’70s, reported something I’ve suspected for a few years — that those fiberglass giants are seeing a big resurgence across the country.

Baker in this recent video recounts all the activity seen with new and old Muffler Men, including along the Route 66 corridor:

It doesn’t appear this phenomenon is going to plateau, either.

Mary Beth Babcock soon will have another giant at one of her businesses in Tulsa. And I know of two or three Muffler Men that are being fabricated or restored.

And the American Giants Museum in Atlanta, Illinois, keeps adding to its Muffler Men collection.

After appearing to be endangered species for a lot of years, Muffler Men indeed are undergoing a renaissance.

  1. I’d go so far as saying that their proliferation is devaluing them. I think it’s time for muffler man condoms.
