The Oklahoma Route 66 Association recently announced a series of events to commemorate the highway’s centennial next year.
The association wrote on a blog post:
Our first event of the year will be the Route 66 Big Band Hangar Dance on April 25, 2026, at the Stafford Air & Space Museum in Weatherford. Join us for a night of dancing, a fly-in, and more!
July 25 will be a special bi-annual Route 66 Hall of Fame event honoring all of our past honorees and an induction of new honorees during this historic year. The ceremony will be held at the Route 66 Museum in Clinton and be followed by a dinner.
On Sept. 26, 2026, we’ll have a Centennial Car Show & Cars Movie Screening at the Tee Pee Drive-In in Sapulpa. We’ll be celebrating the 20th anniversary of Disney-Pixar’s “Cars” with special guests who inspired the film! We’ll also have themed food and drinks and plenty of kids activities like face painting, balloon animals, and car-centric STEM activities.
Our next Centennial celebration of the year will be in Arcadia at the Round Barn for the Round Barn Round-Up Music & Art Festival. On Oct. 17, join us for great food, art, and music. There will be folk music lessons, shopping, live music, and a fiddle competition inspired by real-life fiddler Otto Funk, who walked Highway 66 while playing his fiddle in 1928.
Members of the association will receive exclusive advance notice of the ticketed events. Funds to organize the events are being partially raised from the association’s Centennial Supporter Kit (challenge coin and pin).
The association also said it will later organize an event for Route 66’s actual birthday, which is Nov. 11, 2026.
