John Paget, who is directing the forthcoming documentary film “Route 66: The Main Street of America,” has launched a Kickstarter campaign to generate finishing funds for the project.
Paget set a goal of $41,500 in donations by Sept. 23. As of Saturday night, about $7,300 had been raised. The rewards for donations range from a free screensaver for a $6 contribution to having a strategic alliance and other goodies for $10,000.
If the campaign fails, donors will get their money back.
Once the film is completed, it will be rolled out to historic theaters along the Route 66 corridor during the highway’s centennial in 2026. The documentary is designated as an Official U.S. Route 66 Centennial Project.
Paget directed the award-winning “Route 66: An American Odyssey” film 30 years ago. That arguably is the definitive Route 66 film all these years later.
He also directed “Route 66: Return to the Road with Martin Milner” a few years later. He now is the founder and creative director of First + Main Films.
Both films are available to purchase by DVD or streaming here.
