
Several eateries along Route 66 will receive $50,000 each from the Backing Historic Small Restaurants grant program.
The National Trust for Historic Preservation announced the 50 recipients on Monday. Among the Route 66 restaurants are:
- Rock Cafe, Stroud, Oklahoma (since 1939)
- Ike’s Chili, Tulsa (since 1908)
- The Barn – Route 66, Newberry Springs, California (since 1952)
- Qusqo Bistro & Gallery, Los Angeles
Other restaurants that are a short distance from Route 66:
- Al’s Restaurant, St. Louis (since 1925)
- El Paseo Inn, Los Angeles (since 1930)
- Florence’s Restaurant, Oklahoma City (since 1952)
- Svea Restaurant, Chicago (since 1972)
The five-year program, jointly sponsored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation and American Express, aims to help these historic businesses improve their operations and positively impact their communities, especially after the COVID-19 pandemic.
