
The troubled Arcadia Lodge in Kingman, Arizona, recently gained new owners who plan to bring the Route 66 motel back to life.
According to the Kingman Daily Miner, Ninette and Douglas DaSilva purchased the property, who have plans to bring the lodge back to life with a face lift and some significant additions.”
In March, the city deemed the motel at 909 E. Andy Devine Drive (aka Route 66) as uninhabitable after the local power utility shut off electricity to it due to apparent non-payment.
Many long-term residents there had to be moved into another motel.
This website for the Arcadia Lodge that tried to sell it for $1.25 million states that 10 units are uninhabitable, with one leaky roof on one of the buildings.
It wasn’t that many years ago that the Arcadia Lodge was recommended in the National Historic Route 66 Federation’s Route 66 Dining & Lodging Guide, which now is out of print.
According to the Route 66 Times, the motel opened in 1938, catering to upscale overnight travelers.
