Founders of Frontier Restaurant to be honored by New Mexico Restaurant Association

The founders of the iconic Frontier Restaurant along Route 66 in Albuquerque will be given the lifetime achievement award at the New Mexico Restaurant Association’s Hospitality Industry Awards.

Larry and Dorothy Rainosek founded the Frontier near the University of New Mexico campus in 1971.

They also later founded the small Golden Pride restaurant chain in the Albuquerque metro.

According to KRQE-TV in Albuquerque:

“Dorothy and Larry Rainosek represent the very best of New Mexico’s restaurant community,” said Carol Wight, CEO of the New Mexico Restaurant Association in a news release. “Their dedication to quality food, exceptional service, and most importantly, their treatment of employees as family, has made them icons in our industry. They truly embody the spirit of hospitality that we celebrate.”

Here is the station’s report:

During the Frontier’s 50th anniversary a few years ago, the Rainoseks recalled the restaurant being a relatively small 50-seat venue when it first opened. It eventually expanded to about 300 seats and has become beloved for its breakfast burritos, green chile stew, freshly made tortillas and sweet rolls.

The awards ceremony will be held at the Sheraton Hotel in uptown Albuquerque on Sept. 29.
