Johnny “Moo-Moo” Miller, former Illinois Route 66 Association president, dies

Johnny “Moo-Moo” Miller, a former president of the Illinois Route 66 Association and a longtime member, died on Oct. 11. He was 73.

His obituary, through Hickey Memorial Chapels in Midlothian, Illinois, described him as “a friend to many” and an “avid fan of all Chicago sports teams with the exception of the Cubs.”

“Nobody knew cars like John and no one had more knowledge of useless trivia than John,” the obituary added.

Without fail, Johnny and his late wife Kathy would attend all Illinois Route 66 Association gatherings, especially preservation projects along the Mother Road.

I remember his enthusiasm and how he would throw himself into preservation projects — reminding himself and others that he had had heart surgery some time before. He lived more than 20 years after his heart troubles, so kudos to his doctor and surgeon.

To the day of his death, he served as the association’s Cook County representative.

Services were held on Friday. He requested memorials be mailed to the Illinois Route 66 Association Preservation Committee, 110 W. Howard St., Pontiac, IL 61764.

The funeral home also posted a 23-minute video of photographs from Miller’s life, including dozens of images from Route 66.
