The large neon gateway sign on Route 66 on Albuquerque’s west side recently received a facelift.
KRQE-TV in Albuquerque reports that the city’s Department of Municipal Development joined with Zeon Signs to restore the sign at Central Avenue and 65th Street.
The company said they cleaned out the whole sign, repainted it, and added new lights. To celebrate, people were invited to come out on Friday night to see the sign light up. “I think the favorite part of that process was just the refurbish, being able to pull those pieces off and make sure they were in good condition, and you know, repainting everything, and over the last couple of nights, being able to see it light up is going to be really nice up here,” said James Rogers, Owner of Zeon Signs.
Here’s the station’s video that shows the refurbished sign:
The sign is about two miles west of the Rio Grande River on Central (aka Route 66).
