Santa Rosa receives $500,000 state grant to build Mother Road Bike Park

The City of Santa Rosa, New Mexico, recently landed a $499,999 state grant to begin building a Mother Road Bike Park, with a centerpiece that’s designed to resemble a Route 66 gas station.

The print edition of The Communicator newspaper in Santa Rosa reported that the grant came from the Outdoor Recreation Trails+ program of the state’s Economic Development Department.

Resident Eli Quinn is shepherding the project through a nonprofit organization that he created, Las Sendero de Guadalupe.

Quinn also landed a $99,999 grant from the Economic Development Department to build a bicycle pump track and mini-ramp for skateboarding.

The bicycle park will be located at Perch Lake off Historic Route 66 in Santa Rosa, near the landmark Blue Hole.

Quinn told the newspaper the half-million grant would “complete the starting hub (the Route 66 gas station) and 2 trails, which will be a nice start to the park. The complete park will cost approximately $5 million, so there are a lot more funds to acquire, but this will be a great start that is going to bring great excitement to the project!”
