A Famos on 66 restaurant recently opened in the former Dairy Creme building on Route 66 in Carterville, Missouri.
It’s the second Famos restaurant. The other is the Famos Italian Steakhouse in Carl Junction, Missouri.
According to the Webb City Sentinel, the husband-and-wife team of Ellsworth and Kayla Amos are running the Carterville restaurant. They are original staffers from the site’s predecessor, Famos Grill.
From the restaurant’s website:
Ellsworth and Kayla Amos built Famos on 66 out of two shared loves: feeding people and bringing their community together. After years of cooking for friends, family and events, they dreamed of a place where guests could slow down, share a great meal and feel genuinely taken care of. Route 66 was the perfect backdrop – classic, a little nostalgic and full of stories – just like the recipes and ideas they’d been perfecting at home.
Famos on 66 is their way of turning that dream into a reality: a family-run restaurant where scratch-made food, creative cocktails and warm hospitality all come together. For Ellsworth and Kayla, it’s not just a business – it’s their family’s table, open to anyone passing through or calling this town home.
Famos on 66 is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Thursday through Sunday.
According to Route 66 Times, the Dairy Creme at 328 E. Main in Carteville was also known as Dreama’s Route 66 Cafe, Peggy Sue’s Drive-In, Stewart’s Cafe and the Dead Cow Saloon and Deli.
TheRoute-66.com reports it originally was built as a gas station in the 1930s and converted into a restaurant.
