Kirkwood Performing Arts Center screening a director’s cut of “Show Me 66” documentary

The Kirkwood Performing Arts Center will host a free public screening of the director’s cut of the award-winning “Show Me 66: Main Street Through St. Louis” documentary on Sunday.

The event will include storytelling and live music starting at 2 p.m. at the center at 210 E. Monroe Ave. in Kirkwood, Missouri.

The Webster-Kirkwood Times had more details:

This special afternoon event features a curated conversation with award-winning documentary filmmaker and Missouri Historical Society historian Andrew Wanko, who will share behind-the-scenes insights from the making of “Show Me 66,” and the stories that helped bring Route 66’s St. Louis chapter to life on screen.

Through documentary excerpts, conversation and live music inspired by the open road, the program explores the history, culture and enduring spirit of America’s most iconic highway. The musical portion evokes the sounds and rhythms that have long defined Route 66, rounding out an immersive and engaging experience for all ages.

If you can’t make it to the event, the Missouri Historical Society uploaded the full film a couple of years ago:

Though less than 10 years old, the film still serves as quite a time capsule of Route 66 through Missouri. Several landmarks shown in the documentary have since disappeared.
