Prominent Route 66 advocate Mary Beth Babcock last week was named the grand marshal of the centennial edition of the Tulsa Christmas Parade.
Organizers sprung the announcement on her at her Buck Atom’s Cosmic Curios on 66 shop.
More from the big surprise:
TulsaPeople magazine also covered the reveal.
This year’s parade will be on Dec. 12 in downtown Tulsa. More about the big event will be posted on its website in the coming months.
Unless you’ve been under a rock the past few years, Babcock remains one of the biggest champions of Route 66 and Tulsa. Her advocacy for the Mother Road dates to when she operated her Dwelling Spaces store in downtown Tulsa more than 20 years ago, before she set up shop at Buck Atom’s.
Since opening Buck’s, she’s erected several neon signs, shepherded the opening of two more businesses and commissioned or restored about a half-dozen Muffler Men along Route 66 in Tulsa.
