Kix on 66 restaurant owners in Tucumcari reopen with new name, new site to the west

The popular Kix on 66 restaurant in Tucumcari, New Mexico, which closed almost a year ago due to a kitchen fire, has reopened as SideKix on 66 about a mile to the west.

Owners Todd and Donna Halfhill bought the former Loretta’s Burrito Hut building at 321 E. Route 66 Blvd. last fall and reopened it as SideKix on Saturday, after several months of ongoing renovations.

SideKix will open at 5:30 a.m. seven days a week. It will close at 1:30 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays and at 7:30 p.m. the rest of the week.

Donna Halfhill said about 90% of the Kix on 66 menu made its way to the new location. The space is smaller, with about 25 fewer seats than the old location.

In the meantime, repairs will be ongoing at the old Kix on 66 location at 1102 E. Route 66 Blvd. for at least the next two years.

After the fire in April 2025 gutted the building, the Halfhills found out they were underinsured. The building will be used as storage for the time being.

More about the SideKix reopening can be found in the Eastern New Mexico News.

The Halfhills purchased Kix on 66 in 2023. It became Kix in the early 2000s at the former Denny’s restaurant, which was built in the 1960s.
