Vintage gas pumps restored at 66 Super Service Station in Alanreed

The historic 66 Super Service Station in Alanreed, Texas, received a facelift on Saturday when its newly restored gas pumps were installed at the Route 66 landmark.

R&B Body Shop of Pampa, Texas, a partner of the Texas Old Route 66 Association, did the restoration work on the pumps.

The long-closed station was formerly a Texaco.

More from the association:

Volunteers for the association on the previous weekend cleaned up the property and primed it for the installation of the pumps.

According to the association, Bradley Kiser built the gas station in 1930 on a corner in Alanreed where the original 1926-1936 alignment of Route 66 turned west. It was part of the end of the original Jericho Gap alignment of 66.

Though Route 66 was realigned on Third Street in Alanreed, the station kept its location on the highway. The station closed in 1982.
