Albuquerque approves funds for La Posada

A few days ago, the City of Albuquerque approved issuing $8.9 million in industrial revenue bonds to help renovate the historic La Posada de Albuquerque in downtown, reported the Albuquerque Journal.

Owner Gary Goodman was supposed to reopen the hotel this spring, but renovation costs were higher than anticipated. It’s now anticipated to open in early 2008. The hotel is near Central Avenue, which is historic Route 66.

Envisioned is a 107-room hotel, with 108 full-time and 26 part-time employees. There will be 82 construction jobs during renovation, Mondragon said.

La Posada was one of the original Hilton hotels, built by Conrad Hilton in 1939. […]

The renovation will bring La Posada “back toward the Spanish roots of the hotel,” Goodman said.

“This will be unique. There won’t be another one like this in the country,” he said.
