BowlMor Lanes RT 66 in Lebanon, Missouri, recently landed a vintage neon sign from another bowling alley in Kansas and will restore it.
Bowlmor acquired the big bowling pin — with “BOWLING” in neon letters — that stood atop the All Star Lanes facility in Salina, Kansas. The pin measures 4 by 12 feet.
All Star Lanes closed about 2019, according to a Salina Journal report.
The Lebanon facility at 1331 E. Route 66 in Lebanon posted photos of the worn sign and the original sign on which it stood:
The BowlMor was known as Starlite Lanes, which was established about 1950.
For many Route 66ers, it became a popular place to have a meal and roll a few gutter balls because it was right across the road from the historic Munger Moss Motel. (The Munger Moss is due to reopen to travelers sometime later this year.)
