The Bristow (Oklahoma) Historical Society \announced that a lights-on ceremony will be set for the evening of April 11 for the long-dark Chrysler Plymouth tower sign.
The ceremony will take place at about 8:15 p.m. The tower sign once stood a block or two from Route 66, but it has been moved to the Mother Road.
More posts from the historical society about the forthcoming event and the tower’s restoration:
A state Route 66 revitalization grant is covering $700,000 of the $1 million project, with the rest from the city.
Grover Hubert “Red” Beard designed the 100-foot-tall sign and installed it atop his 24-hour dealership in 1949.
The sign is believed to have gone dark sometime in the 1950s. The local historical society claims it would be the tallest freestanding sign on Route 66.
