Over 1,000 cars already registered for Route 66 Centennial Capital Cruise in Tulsa

Registration for the Route 66 Centennial Capital Cruise in Tulsa has logged 1,000 participants — months before the big event.

According to a news release, 1,023 classic-car owners from 26 states had completed their registrations.

Organizers aim to break the Guinness World Record for the largest classic-car parade of 2,491 cars. With the parade not until May 30, it appears they’re well on their way.

Tulsa’s goal is 3,000 cars.

“This is a once-in-a-lifetime celebration, and drivers are taking advantage of the opportunity to be a part of history,” said Renee McKenney, senior vice president of tourism of the Tulsa Regional Chamber and president of Tulsa Regional Tourism.

“People are realizing Tulsa is the place to be, both for the Capital Cruise Centennial celebration and all our world-class attractions and entertainment options. We can’t wait to welcome all the drivers, spectators, and enthusiasts who are ready to get their kicks on Route 66!”

Registration remains open, but vehicles must be model year 1996 or older to qualify.

Early-bird registration is $15 through April 30 and $25 after that.

A Capital Cruise Expo and Tailgate will precede the parade at Expo Square in Tulsa on May 28 and 29. The expo will host driver check-ins, vendors and Route 66 attractions. The tailgate event will offer live music and more.

The parade departs from Expo Square at 8 a.m. on May 30. The route runs from 11th Street and Yale Avenue to 10th Street and Elgin Avenue near downtown — about 3 1/2 miles.
