The photography of Route 66 in this video is exceptional. Ditto for the music, which is by Buddy and Julie Miller.

Notes from the road
The "East Meets West" sculpture at the Cyrus Avery Centennial Plaza at Riverside Drive and Southwest Boulevard (aka Route 66) in Tulsa is inching closer to being installed. Dennis Whitaker at the city of Tulsa gave me this update, via e-mail: [T]he artist is finished with the car group and the foundry has already cast … Continue reading Notes from the road
Shooting the Southwest
This video led me to the Gaupers, a husband-and-wife photography team that checked out some of the Route 66 sights in the Texas Panhandle, especially the New Mexico border ghost town of Glenrio. They captured some really striking images there.

Here's a photo taken at 10 a.m. today at John's Modern Cabins, off old Route 66 near Arlington, Mo. The area had been covered by a snowstorm the day before. (Photo courtesy of Shades of Grey Photography)
Book about U.S. 89 published
We at Route 66 News concentrate on news concerning the Mother Road, but occasionally pay attention to developments about other historic two-lane highways. So it is with interest that we take note of a new photo-and-essay book by Ann Torrence titled "U.S. Highway 89: The Scenic Route to Seven Western National Parks" (Sagebrush Press, 160 … Continue reading Book about U.S. 89 published
A new old view
Here's a new twist on an old toy -- Wurlington Bros. Press has created three new reels for the old View-Master devices, including one for Route 66 in Chicago. The View-Master device, which looked like some sort of portable gizmo an eye doctor would use, created a three-dimensional effect on photographs, and were popular children's … Continue reading A new old view

The opening nights of the exhibits about car culture coincide with the nearby 2010 Detroit Auto Show. … Continue reading Double the art gallery fun
Bridal barn
Here's a new behind-the-scenes video of a wedding-gown photography session at the Round Barn in Arcadia, Okla. It was for The Brides of Oklahoma magazine.
Notes from the road
Since Paul Newman's death in 2008, speculation has run rampant on whether Disney-Pixar will revive his Doc Hudson character for the "Cars" sequel. Larry the Cable Guy, who portrayed Mater in the original "Cars," told the Whig Standard of Kingston, Ontario, that the Doc Hudson character has been essentially retired: "It's a shame he's still … Continue reading Notes from the road
Notes from the road
I've been watching this story carefully, even though it doesn't have much to do with Route 66. Johnny Hallyday, 66, a rock 'n' roll legend in France, was placed in a medically induced coma in Los Angeles after complications developed in France after back surgery. He's expected to make a recovery, and he emerged from … Continue reading Notes from the road
