Scenes from the Route 66 Blowout

The Route 66 Blowout in Sapulpa, Okla., is a dandy of a classic-car ... and pickup truck ... and motorcycle show. Here are photos I took from the festival on Saturday. Believe me, there's a lot more from where that came.

It’s a gas, gas, gas

If you live in northern California, here's something for you to check out. Route 66 enthusiast Mark Reiff converted the front yard of his Woodland, Calif., home into a virtual museum of gas-station memorabilia. And he drives a fabulous-looking tow truck, too. You can see it all in this video by the Sacramento Bee.

Ford issues Route 66 challenges

Ford's Fiesta Movement site has issued challenges to a bunch of  young, hip "agents" who are spending six months behind the wheel of a 2011 Ford Fiesta and posting videos of their adventures on the site. Here's one of the challenges: It’s a long stretch of classic American road, but it doesn’t show up on … Continue reading Ford issues Route 66 challenges

Scenes from the Route 66 Car Show

Here is a slide show of nice-looking rides at Saturday's Route 66 Car Show in Joplin, Mo. The music choice of "Whiskey Lullaby" is a bit bizarre, though.

Chicago to L.A. without a drop of gasoline?

NewsOXY.com, an independent news site about new and green technology, says there's something big on the horizon regarding automobiles. However, imagine if you would, a hybrid or plug in electric car which can travel across longer distances? A vehicle which could drive from New York City and arrive in Los Angeles without using a drop … Continue reading Chicago to L.A. without a drop of gasoline?

Taking a T-Bird west

The Panama City (Fla.) News Herald posted an interesting story about Johnny and Judy Bunch driving their restored 1956 Ford Thunderbird on Route 66. The story is good, but the video is better -- mainly because you can see that beautiful car. The other interesting part is this excerpt: Although tourism is the main draw … Continue reading Taking a T-Bird west

Where did that Ford Fairlane come from?

A bunch of people noticed the beautiful 1950s Ford Fairlane convertible that "Good Morning America Weekend" anchorwoman Kate Snow and her sister drove during a recent trip on Route 66. The Claremore (Okla.) Daily Progress answers the question on the source of the automobile. Its a 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner with retractable hardtop, owned … Continue reading Where did that Ford Fairlane come from?

One family’s take on the Fun Run

Here's Jeff Rucker's video and slide show from last weekend's Fun Run by the Arizona Route 66 Association. A lot of swell-looking rides are featured. A bonus is a few pictures from Roy's in Amboy, Calif.

Off-roaders’ delight

4 Wheel Drive & Sport Utility Magazine has quite a story about off-roading adventures around the Route 66 town of Oatman, Ariz. Basically, the riders noted all the dirt roads leading away from Route 66, and decided to follow them with their rugged rigs. They found a lot of ruins from the gold-mining operations that … Continue reading Off-roaders’ delight

Fun Run draws large crowds

I received this brief e-mailed report from Jim Hinckley of Kingman, Ariz., about the annual Arizona Route 66 Association's 22nd annual Fun Run: I do not have the final tally but in my estimation this was the largest Fun Run to date. If nothing else it was the most diverse in the vehicle department. There … Continue reading Fun Run draws large crowds
