A look back at Henry’s restaurant

David Allen of the Inland Valley (Calif.) Daily Bulletin takes a nostalgic look at the unique Henry's restaurant on Route 66 in Pomona, Calif., which was demolished more than two decades ago. More remarkably, the exterior - a large oval dome with broad windows and wooden trellises at the roof's edges - is variously remembered … Continue reading A look back at Henry’s restaurant

The issues of the Route 66 State Park Bridge

Longtime roadie Joe Sonderman appeared on KTVI-TV in St. Louis to discuss his opposition to the state's planned demolition of the Route 66 Bridge at Route 66 State Park near Eureka, Mo. I think Sonderman did a good job outlining why it may be a bad idea to knock down the bridge. But given the … Continue reading The issues of the Route 66 State Park Bridge

I'm not sure how this happened, although I've noticed the search functions for YouTube have become erratic lately. Anyway, here are the entries on the books of the Song of Solomon, Isaiah, Jeremiah and Lamentations (the latter … Continue reading Catching up on our Bible watching

Deck the cars

Albuquerque recently held its annual Christmas parade on Central Avenue, aka Route 66. Here, the cars and a fair number of people are festooned with Christmas lights. Given Albuquerque's long history of colorful neon signs, the parade seems like a nod to that tradition.

This slide show posted on YouTube turns out to be a good overview of the historic La Posada Hotel in Winslow, Ariz.

Riding at Route 66

A couple of weeks ago while cruising the East 11th Street portion of Route 66 in rural Tulsa, we noticed a bunch of saddled horses on the old Brashear's "Rent a Horse to Ride" property. Seconds later, we spotted new signs on the fence around the property, advertising Route 66 Riding Stables and "Rent a … Continue reading Riding at Route 66

Pevely Dairy plant named to National Register

Pevely Dairy, especially its ice cream, was a St. Louis institution for more than a century. But … Continue reading Pevely Dairy plant named to National Register
