“Easy Rider’s” opening credits

Many a road trip on Route 66 has been inspired by the opening credits of the 1969 movie, “Easy Rider,” with its sweeping cinematography by Laszlo Kovacs (who died a few days ago) and Steppenwolf‘s “Born to Be Wild” pulsing over the soundtrack.

Here it is:

Longtime roadies will recognize a few Route 66 spots during the sequence, including the Colorado River bridge near Needles, Calif., pine forests and businesses around Flagstaff, and the Pine Breeze Inn in Bellemont, Ariz., that turned Captain America and Billy away when they needed a place to sleep for the night.

  1. Just watched “Easy Rider” a few nights ago on AMC. Sure makes you want to get out on the road. Outstanding soundtrack!

“This used to be one hell of a country! I don’t know what happened to it.”

  2. A small side note – the park where Billy and Capt America work on their bikes early in the film is along front street in Needles next to the old underpass.
