Jazz group will tour Mother Road

It looks like another band is touring Route 66 in a few days.

Joel Clemons and the Lemons, a jazz-fusion group based out of the Los Angeles area, will be undertaking its Route 66 Music Tour (site best seen in Internet Explorer) in a matter of days.

ROUTE 66 MUSIC TOUR, starring JOEL CLEMONS, is set to roll out of Chicago, bound for Los Angeles, durign the 4th week of August 2008. The tour will stop in at least 14 “Main Street USA” towns. The Tour’s convoy will include a Chevy Malibu, which will be driven from Illinois’ Lake Michigan shoreline to Malibu, located on the California Pacific Coast. Route 66 fans are encouraged to be a part of creating new Route 66 history by attending these concerts, which will undoubtedly draw appreciated and needed attention to the Mother Road’s unique and much cherished heritage.

  • Aug. 29 — Westin St. Louis main lobby, St. Louis, show at 8 p.m.
  • Aug. 30 — Baxter Springs High School auditorium, Baxter Springs, Kan.
  • Aug. 31 — Arts Festival Oklahoma, Oklahoma City Community College, 3-4 p.m.
  • Aug. 31 — Prohibition Room, Oklahoma City, 8:30 p.m.
  • Sept. 1 — The Nat Ballroom, Amarillo, Texas, 8 p.m.
  • Sept. 2 — Tucumcari High School auditorium, Tucumcari, N.M., 7 p.m.
  • Sept. 3 — Route 66 Casino, Albuquerque, 7 p.m.
  • Sept. 4 — El Morro Theatre, Gallup, N.M.
  • Sept. 5 — Theatrikos Theatre Co., Flagstaff, Ariz., 7:45 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
  • Sept. 6 — Williams Elementary School, Williams, Ariz., 6 p.m.
  • Sept. 7 — Metcalfe Park, Kingman, Ariz.
  • Sept. 8 — Herb Bender Fine Arts Building, Needles High School campus, Needles, Calif., 6:30 p.m.
  • Sept. 9 — High  Desert Center for the Arts, Victorville, Calif., 7:30 p.m.
  • Sept. 10 — Los Angeles
  • Sept. 11 — Santa Monica, Calif.
  • Sept. 12 — Malibu, Calif.

The show at The Nat in Amarillo should be especially cool, considering the storied history of that venue. Ditto for El Morro in Gallup.
