Marshfield wins spot on revitalization initiative

The Route 66 town of Marshfield was one of 10 communites that was selected to the Downtown Revitalization and Economic Assistance for Missouri initiative, or DREAM, reported the Marshfield Mail.

… Gov. Matt Blunt states the purpose of the DREAM Initiative is to give small and mid-sized communities additional tools for economic development. […]

The downtown business district is focused between Madison and Jefferson streets, between Interstate 44 and Route OO and the railroad tracks on the south side. Vicat noted that not only does Strafford have a tie to the history of Route 66, but it was also a main stop on the old Frisco railroad line.

Some of the projects Vicat expressed an interest in possibly tackling, using DREAM Initiative means, would include new sidewalks, plantings to beautify the downtown area and maybe even a walkway along old Route 66. He said he was still in the process of finding out exactly what incentives might be available for the city through the program.

The Mail also reported that the Route 66 communities of Lebanon, Strafford and Webb City also were selected for the DREAM initiative.

UPDATE: Fixed to correct some coding issues.
