The Rock Cafe, circa 2009

Here’s a video shot in 2009 by Channeling Media when it was pitching Dawn Welch and her Rock Cafe in Stroud, Okla., for a possible Food Network show. It was about a year after the historic Route 66 restaurant was gutted by a fire and rebuilt.

The cable channel passed on the idea, but Welch did publish her “Dollars to Donuts” cookbook, which came out later that year.

I found the video a few days ago, but was initially reluctant to post it because Welch subsequently went through a divorce — which the notes in the video partly address.

But Welch wanted the video to be seen by a wider audience because “I didn’t want to let such a great piece of work go unused.” And it does show what the Rock Cafe is like on a typical day, even now.

So here it is.

  1. Exactly as it was when we visited. Great food and great chat. Can’t wait till we go back.

  2. Hey Ron & Emily! You were there …
thanks for all the work you do here and friendship. Without that, parts of my life would be much harder; my Route 66 family have always understand that life moves on and changes occur. This video has such an excellent portrayal of life at the Rock, it needed to be viral. D
