A film portrait of Harley Russell

I doubt you’ll find a more candid or heartbreaking film about Harley Russell, one-half of the Mediocre Music Makers in Erick, Oklahoma, than this one.

A description of the film:

Despite living in the small town of Erick, Oklahoma and bordering on the edge of insanity, a self-proclaimed ‘mediocre music maker’ attracts visitors from around the world.

This 13-minute film was made by March Merchanti. It made the rounds on the film-festival circuit more than a year ago. It’s PG-rated, as Harley occasionally talks like adults sometimes talk.

The 2014 death from cancer of the other half of the Mediocre Music Makers, Annabelle Russell, looms large in the documentary.

This excerpt from a recent Justin Scarred video of a Harley came to mind during Merchanti’s film:

  1. A splendid film. The subject was a wonderful fellow – just try’n to hang on after his partner-in-life has died. He spreads the joy of music and ‘good time’ to those who are will to slow down ‘n pause to share some time together…

To March: I wish to acknowledge his choice of background music for all his atmosphere shots in the production. They are surpurb selections that really set the mood. Good for you! I hope you win some awards and recognition for your production.

Everyone ought to have a lil’ HARLEY in their life!

  2. Love your web page how ever portraying Harley Russell leaves something to be desired. Having taken guest from France on their first trip from start to finish on Route 66 and meeting so many nice people was great. However being greeting with sarcasm and profanity at one stop was not good image for the other people of Route 66.
