It’s not just the military vehicles, it’s the people

Frank Kocevar, a former co-owner of Historic Seligman Sundries and a frequent videographer of Route 66 events in Arizona, took a slightly different angle with the Military Vehicle Preservation Association’s convoy down Route 66.

He focused on the people in the convoy. He said in an email:

The participants are as interesting as the vehicles. As always it is the human element in these ventures that blend in well with Route 66.

Also, Ron Hart of the Route 66 Chamber of Commerce recently announced he has produced a 23-minute, high-resolution DVD of the convoy making its way through Carterville, Webb City and Joplin in Missouri and Galena and Baxter Springs in Kansas.

He wrote in a Facebook post:

Anyone making a ten dollar contribution to the Route 66 Chamber of Commerce will receive this video. Send a request for the video to Visit66@yahoo.com with your mailing address, and the video will be sent to you. If you are satisfied, follow the instructions for payment that will be enclosed.
This re-creation of a time when U.S. Highway 66 was also called the “Military Road” was a rare event and will not likely be repeated anytime soon.

A look at Hart’s video in lower-res form:

The convoy is scheduled to finish its 2,400-mile journey at Santa Monica by Saturday.
