Lincoln Route 66 sites featured in Chicago TV segment

The Loyola University of Chicago men’s basketball team made an unlikely march to the NCAA Final Four and play in the semifinals Saturday at the San Antonio Alamodome.

To mark the occasion, the big CBS affiliate in Chicago sent reporter Charlie De Mar and a cardboard cutout of Loyola’s team chaplain and fan favorite, Sister Jean, on a road trip south.

On the way, De Mar visited two Route 66 sites in Lincoln, Illinois — The Mill museum and the World’s Largest Covered Wagon. Geoff Ladd, who was instrumental in saving both landmarks, makes an appearance.

Ladd also shot this video at the covered-wagon site:

Such segments may seem trivial, but don’t be surprised if Lincoln gets a nice uptick in visitors from the Windy City in the coming months.
