“Route 66 Rising” sculpture construction to begin next week

Construction on the massive “Route 66 Rising” sculpture planned for the traffic circle at Mingo Road and Admiral Place (aka Route 66) will begin next week.

KJRH-TV in Tulsa reports:

The project, which is a part of Vision 2025, will take about two weeks to complete.

The sculpture will be about 70 feet wide and 30 feet high. The budget for the project is $655,000.

Vision 2025 was a sales tax collected in Tulsa County from 2004 to 2016. Vision 2025 included $15 million for projects on Route 66 in Tulsa.

Eric F. Garcia of EFG Creative in Albuquerque designed the sculpture. He also designed the well-received roadrunner-influenced Route 66 directional signs in Albuquerque about three years ago.

The roundabout is part of Avery Traffic Circle, the former site of Cyrus Avery’s motel that also consisted of a gas station and the Old English Inn. Avery long has been known as the “Father of Route 66.”
