Cuba, Missouri, launches a new tourism app

The Cuba Area Chamber of Commerce in the Route 66 town of Cuba, Missouri, recently launched a Visit Cuba Mo app with the help of developer Go to Blu.

According to a news release about the app:

The free app available through Google Play or the Apple App Store provides the visitor with an event schedule as well as information about a diverse array of restaurants, businesses, and attractions. Billed as Missouri’s Mural City, Cuba centrally located to an array of historic sites, wineries, and scenic attractions is becoming recognized as a destination for weekend adventurers as well as international Route 66 enthusiasts. These apps allow for an enhanced visitor experience. They also provide additional opportunities to promote the city to the casual traveler driving on Route 66 or I-44. In addition, as Cuba is less than two hours from St. Louis, the new app can be used as a marketing tool to attract the spontaneous traveler in search of a weekend getaway destination or a unique dining experience.
From the restored Wagon Wheel Motel, the longest continuously operated motel on Route to 66, to its diverse array of murals, Cuba is recognized as a community that embraces its rich and colorful history.

The news release also noted that author and travel consultant Jim Hinckley made arrangements with Slovakia-based Touch Media so its Route 66 Navigation app would recommend Cuba’s downtown Main Street, one block off Route 66.

Downloading the app to my Android phone, the app essentially acts as an interactive map of Cuba, showing community groups, lodging options, monuments, murals, museums, points of interest, restaurants and sculptures. The app also contains a QR code scanner and an events calendar.
