California Historic Route 66 Association will host Zoom conference about bridge repairs, COVID-19

The California Historic Route 66 Association will host a Zoom videoconference seminar Sept. 12 about the ongoing repairs to dozens of Route 66 bridges in the Mojave Desert and the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the road’s museums and other sites.

Brandon Biggs, an assistant director of the San Bernardino County Public Works Department, will give a video presentation on the status and repairs of the storm-damaged Route 66 bridges in the Mojave Desert. Scott Piotrowski, president of the association, will give a report on the pandemic’s effect on Route 66 museums and updates on the Bottletree Ranch, Goffs, Daggett, San Bernardino and more.

The Zoom videoconference will be held 10 a.m. Pacific time Sept. 12. To watch, one must download the Zoom app on a computer or smartphone, then go to https://jusd-k12-ca-us.zoom.us/j/89061817253? . The meeting ID number is 890 6181 7253 and the password is hXA2pZ.

More about the Zoom conference is here. More about the association may be found here.

The association’s Zoom conferences have been held twice a month on the second and fourth Saturdays since the pandemic took hold.

Piotrowski wrote in an email:

We’ve been slowly gaining in attendance but want to get a bigger audience going on these. Each time since the first one we have had a specific subject but we end each with a conversation about the current status of 66 in California in regard to COVID. We have found this an opportunity to be more current regarding that quickly-changing topic. […]
Following the 9/12 San Bernardino County discussion we will have a photography discussion on 9/26. We have some ideas on October but are playing them by ear a bit depending on COVID. If it looks like we may start re-re-opening then, we are hoping to have a segment on non-66 museums (Heritage Square, Museum of Death, McDonald’s Museum, etc), which we had to cancel when the spikes of cases hit.
We recently had Joy Jarvis as a guest just prior to the start of her journey on bicycle along 66 to benefit ALS. We will have her back November 14 just after she completes her journey, probably on 11/11. We should have another guest then, too, in conjunction.
And we have a few others that we are lining up as well for when things change. Our best, so far, was probably when we had Colton Weiss from Mel’s Diner, Alex Romios of Flappy Jack’s, and Andrea Pruett of Bagdad Cafe all on together. It was fantastic.
