Museum of the American Military Family in Tijeras marking its 10th anniversary

The Museum of the American Military Family & Learning Center in the Sandia Mountains village of Tijeras, New Mexico, is celebrating its 10th year of operation.

The museum is housed in a vintage house along Route 66 with four interpretive rooms, a special collections library and a podcast. The museum began as online-only, settled for a while at Bataan Military Academy in Albuquerque and found a permanent home in 2016.

Museum founder and director Circe Olson Woessner said she hopes to find another location for the museum eventually.

KRQE-TV in nearby Albuquerque reports the museum is asking military families, both active and retired, to mail a memory about their military service on a postcard or birthday card to be used in a special photo album. The address:

MAMF
546B State Highway 333
Tijeras, NM 87059

Here is the station’s 6-minute video about the museum:

The museum is open by appointment only. Visitors are asked to call 24 hours before their arrival at (505) 504-6830 or (505) 400-3849. Its activities have been somewhat curtailed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

More information about the museum can be found on its Facebook page.

  1. Visited here during the last New Mexico Motor Tour. Very insightful, particularly for those are members of an American Military Family. I saw quite a few things that brought back memories of my time as an “Army Brat”.
