Owner of University Lodge in Albuquerque pushes forward to make improvements

The owner of the University Lodge in the Nob Hill area of Albuquerque said she’ll push to finish improvements to the Route 66 motel by sometime next year.

Owner Sharmin Dharas, who grew up in the motel, told KRQE-TV that many of the issues that plagued her property subsided once the city forced a nearby convenience store to stop selling mini-bottles of booze.

“We’ll use the pool as a community pool and have a swim club,” said Dharas.
Each of the rooms will be getting a makeover too, making them more modern. They’ve already started those changes. “Within the rooms, we’re looking at providing expression of pops of New Mexico, pops of Route 66 culture,” said Dharas. […]
Dharas says she plans on asking the city for help with funding. She says they’re hopeful that the renovations will be complete by April 2022.

Here is the video from the station:

Dharas initially announced in summer 2018 her plans to rebrand the motel at 3711 Central Ave. (aka Route 66) as a “chic” and “retro” Avenue Motel.

Dharas’ parents, Salim and Rosemin Dharas, bought the motel during the 1990s. It was built as a TraveLodge in 1960.

  1. I don’t understand the way “pop” is used in this article. If anyone can educate me, please do. A Google search didn’t offer any definition that helped make sense. I’ll be chillin’ in my crib hoping to get the skinny on it.
