Neon for Shamrock Court motel in Sullivan is relighted during a ceremony

The long-anticipated relighting of a neon sign and architectural neon for the historic Shamrock Court motel in Sullivan, Missouri, occurred Saturday evening with dozens of roadies in attendance.

Here is a short video, posted on Facebook, by Douglas Rice of the lighting countdown:

Property owner Roamin’ Rich Dinkela posted a live feed from the festivities:

If you want to help Dinkela with the expenses of relighting the neon, he’s selling some limited-edition T-shirts:

Dinkela said in November he plans to reopen the property as a motel and RV park sometime in 2023. You can read more about his efforts to reinvigorate the long-closed property here.

The distinctive, giraffe-stone motel dates to the late 1940s and previously was owned by the Weiland family for nearly 70 years.

In the late 1970s, the motel was converted into efficiency apartments with living quarters for longtime owners John and Rose Weiland until they died.
