Oklahoma unveils new U.S. Bicycle Route 66 bicycle signs that will be posted

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation recently unveiled a new U.S. Bicycle Route 66 that will be installed along nearly 400 miles of the historic highway in the state.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation debuted the newly approved road sign for U.S. Bicycle Route 66 in Oklahoma. According to a news release from ODOT:

The sign was debuted on the heels of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials’ approval of Oklahoma’s application to add the historic route through the state to the U.S. Bicycle Route System.

This designation connects Oklahoma’s bike route with portions previously designated in Kansas and Missouri and is expected to attract riders from across the country.

ODOT also unveiled a MoveOK app helps users find local, state and national trails (including U.S. Bicycle Route 66) and points of interest, including rest stops and picnic areas.

Users of the app can save their favorite routes and record trips by time, distance covered and average speed.

MoveOK also shows important roadway data such as elevation profiles, traffic counts and shoulder profiles with widths and rumble strip information to help users plan their excursions. ODOT developed the app with input from bicyclists, planners and members of the Oklahoma Legislature for about $150,000 through an existing technology contract.

The MoveOK app is available on the Apple App Store or Google Play store.
