TeePee Drive-In theater in Sapulpa to screen movies for the first time in 20 years

The TeePee Drive-In on the west side of Sapulpa, Oklahoma, will hold screenings of movies for the first time in more than 20 years on Halloween weekend.

The theater will show “Halloween End” on Friday night and “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial” on Saturday. It would be the first time movies have been shown at the venue since 1999 or 2000. Tickets for “Halloween End” can be purchased here and “E.T.” here.

More in the TeePee’s Facebook post:

The screenings effectively will serve as a soft reopening of the TeePee before winter sets in. Its owners say they’ll hold regular screenings there in the spring. They had hoped to reopen the long-shuttered venue this year, but supply-side shortages prevented that.

The Kante Group, which owns several other historic buildings in Sapulpa, purchased the Tee Pee property in 2021. The ownership group wants to add 12 vintage trailers, a playground, a dining area and shopping to the property.

The TeePee Drive-In was built in 1950. The last movie shown there before it closed was in 1999 or 2000.

The theater’s location is 1705 W. Highway 66, on the old Ozark Trail alignment of Route 66. That semi-rural stretch served as the Mother Road from 1926 to 1952 and includes the 1925 Rock Creek Bridge as a landmark.
