American Giants Museum planned for downtown Atlanta, Illinois

Joel Baker, a Muffler Man aficionado who has created a website and documentary shorts about his obsession, announced this week he is planning an American Giants Museum site along Route 66 in Atlanta, Illinois,

The museum will be almost directly across the street from the Bunyan Giant Muffler Man in downtown that once stood along Route 66 at Bunyon’s restaurant in Cicero, Illinois.

Baker made the announcement about the museum on his Instagram account. He wrote:

The museum well tell the story of the #mufflerman and #internationalfiberglass. Many items made by IF will be on display at the museum with permanent and rotating exhibits. The museum will somewhat resemble an old Texaco station complete with vintage Texaco signs and a #texacobigfriend. The Atlanta Betterment Fund took the initiative to make this new attraction happen and work together with American Giants to supply the exhibits.

The tentative opening date is summer 2023. More details below:

Baker also played a key role in making sure Mary Beth Babcock was able to have a Muffler Man, christened Buck Atom, at her Buck Atom’s Cosmic Curios on Route 66 shop in Tulsa.

More than a dozen Muffler Men still exist along Route 66, as the Route 66 Times details. That number actually has grown in recent years because of business owners commissioning new Muffler Men from scratch.

  1. I have watched several American Giant videos. In fact, I am a subscriber to Joel’s YouTube channel. Look forward to many more videos as he crosses the country to find more relics.

  2. Same here Tim. Have followed he and his friends adventures over the years. And I love Atlanta, so this seems like a perfect match to me.

  3. This new museum sounds fantastic! We all love Muffler Men and American Giants! The logo is wonderful as well! (It’s a little hard to read the word “museum” but I’m picky like that!) 🙂
