A new hotel soon will rise from the rubble of the Hiway House Motel in Albuquerque.
A developer told KRQE-TV of his plans for a Hiway Hotel that will be built where the Hiway House Motel once stood.
“Mid-century modern-esque design and a little bit of space-aginess to it. We wanted to embrace the car culture of route 66 and this forward motion about the traveler because that’s what travel is all about as it relates to the hotel,” said Josh Rogers with Titan development partner.
The lot’s owners Titan development is getting ready to build a brand new 112 room hotel which will be linked to Marriott’s “Tribute” brand.
The planned boutique hotel will have a roof top bar, a restaurant and even an entertainment area.
Though the old motel is gone, the vintage neon sign for the Hiway House will remain.
Titan wants to break ground on the hotel by early 2026 and hopes to open it by 2028.
Bernalillo County recently approved a $34 million industrial revenue bond for the project.
The Hiway House was built in 1959, but it deteriorated into a public nuisance in recent years after a propane tank explosion in 2019. It was part of a long-defunct motel chain that started in the mid-1950s.
