Otter Cove Diner in Miami to close at end of today

The Otter Cove Diner along Route 66 in Miami, Oklahoma, announced this week it will have its last day of business today after less than four years in existence.

The restaurant at 230 S. Main St. (aka Route 66) will shut down after 2:30 p.m. today “or while supplies last,” it stated in a Facebook post.

It also stated:

This decision did not come lightly. It comes after careful consideration of how we can better serve and connect with our community moving forward. While this chapter is closing, we’re excited to explore new opportunities that we believe will make an even greater impact.

As part of this transition, our staff was offered opportunities within our other tribal businesses—some accepted new roles, while others are pursuing different paths. We’re proud of each one and grateful for the heart they brought to Otter Cove.

From all of us at Otter Cove, thank you for the memories, the meals, and the moments shared. It’s been an honor to be part of your table.

How the mighty have fallen. The restaurant and gift shop, operated by the Ottawa Tribe, served more than 1,100 customers on its opening day in July 2022.

The tribe built on the site of a former Texaco station that opened in the late 1920s.

  1. Regarding the Otter Cove article and the “How the m\ighty have fallen” comment. Is there info or context missing from this article? It just seemed like a point of snark unrelated to the intent of the post. Just wonderin’.

    1. It’s not snark. When you go from 1,100 customers on opening day to terminating operations four years later, something has gone terribly amiss.
