Reports: Route 66 Car Museum in Springfield, Missouri, to close next year

Guy Mace’s Route 66 Car Museum in Springfield, Missouri, is scheduled to close in 2027, according to several media outlets.

KOLR-10 / KOZL-TV reported:

Ozarks First spoke with an employee who says they’re not discussing the details as to why it’s closing, but simply said, “The owner is older and is retiring”.

The employee stated the museum will close sometime in the spring of 2027.

The Springfield Business Journal also reported on the car museum’s closure next year.

It reported the facility draws 12,000 visitors annually, with at least a third of them foreign travelers.

Route 66 Information Station reported that it heard the museum’s last day would be Dec. 15 and that the vehicle collection will be auctioned.

The museum opened in 2016. It is at 1634 W. College St. (aka Route 66), just west of the Kansas Expressway.

At the time, Mace had collected antique and classic cars for over 20 years, and the several dozen cars in the museum are unique or rare.

Mace said his most famous acquisition is the truck from the 1939 Oscar-winning film “The Grapes of Wrath,” driven by Henry Fonda.
