Whimsy Waypoint, which includes Flintstones-styled cabin, soon will open near Vinita

Whimsy Waypoint, which features a “The Flintstones”-inspired cabin and three other uniquely designed ones, is set to open this year a few miles east of the Route 66 town of Vinita, Oklahoma.

The “Flintstones”-styled getaway is called Bedrock Grotto, containing one bath, one kitchen, a fire pit and a hot tub. It will allow up to five guests per night.

For those who are unfamiliar, “The Flintstones” was an animated comedy in the early 1960s that portrayed a family in a Stone Age setting. It continues to live on in reruns and merchandising.

The other cabins are:

  • Castaway Treescape, “a Swiss Family Robinson-style hideaway among the trees”
  • Stumble Rock Inn, “a rustic Western town where adventure meets comfort”
  • Mission Base, a military tribute outpost

Nightly rental rates will be from $225 to $325 per night.

Fox 23 in Tulsa went to Waypoint’s managers, Joel and Diane Taylor, to check it out:

“Whimsy Waypoint is a creation of over 30 years of being in the short-term rental business,” said Joel Taylor. “We started out years ago in Michigan and now, when we retired and came here, we said ‘let’s do something new’.” […]

“We’re experiential hospitality, that’s what we call it,” Joel said. “You come here for an experience. We’re not just a room you come and stay in.”

Guests can expect surprises like secret doors, themed décor and interactive elements throughout the property.

“It’s very Disney-esque, and we never know what they’re going to put in,” Diane Taylor said. “It’s amazing.”

The Taylors said the proximity to Route 66, Grand Lake and several major cities factored into their decision to start Whimsy Waypoint in Vinita.

Its website shows that Mission Base is open for bookings about mid-June. The Taylors said the rest of the cabins will open later this year.
