The History Museum on the Square in downtown Springfield, Missouri, recently opened the “Miles of Memories: Celebrating Route 66’s Centennial” exhibit.
The exhibit will remain up until Sept. 20.
The Springfield News-Leader reported:
The exhibit is a retrospective, combining highlights from the museum’s five-year Route 66 series, which began in 2022. […]
The new exhibit brings together artifacts, photographs and stories from each of these exhibits, offering a comprehensive look at the businesses, destinations and experiences that shaped Springfield’s Route 66 legacy.
“The Route 66 centennial is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate not only the road itself, but the communities that gave it character,” Sean FitzGibbons, executive director of the History Museum on the Square, said in the announcement. “Miles of Memories allows visitors to revisit the stories we’ve shared over the past five years and discover how Springfield helped transform Route 66 into a symbol of American travel, adventure and culture.”
The other exhibits at the museum in recent years were “Order Up! The Restaurants of Route 66,” “Service with a Smile: Route 66 Service Stations,” “Checking In: Iconic Hotels & Motels of Greene County” and last year’s “Roadside Gems: Rediscovering Route 66’s Cultural Attractions.”
The museum is open from Wednesday through Sunday.
