Newest Muffler Man installed at American Giants Museum

The American Giants Museum in Atlanta, Illinois, added another Muffler Man to its collection — a Philips 66 Cowboy giant.

Joel Baker, curator of the museum along old Route 66, posted a live Facebook video on the day the giant was installed.

According to the American Giants website, the Phillips 66 cowboy giant was created in the 1960s around the company’s slogan: “Go with Phillips 66 … the gasoline that won the West.”

The museum is also due to receive a Viking giant soon. It was scheduled to be installed on Memorial Day weekend, but its restorer encountered some delays.

The American Giants Museum tells the story of the kitschy and quirky Muffler Man fiberglass statues that popped up in the 1960s as advertising gimmicks across the United States.

The American Giants Museum, which first opened to the public in 2023, is operated by the Atlanta Betterment Fund, a federally certified organization established in 2008 through private donations and administered by a board of directors. Its mission is to make Atlanta a better place to live by supporting local businesses, plus civic and religious organizations.
