Oklahoma now boasts a soda that commemorates Route 66’s centennial this year.
Okola-homa Soda Co. and the Oklahoma Route 66 Association announced this month the launch of a Route 66 “Centennial Edition” anniversary collectable can. The company anticipates it will soon be available in locations across the Sooner State.
The company is shipping 12-ounce six-packs and 16-ounce single cans across its network.
“As Oklahoma prepares to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Mother Road, we’re proud to partner with the Okola-homa Soda Company as the Official Craft Soda Supplier for the Route 66 Centennial,” stated Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell.
“As our state’s first and only family-owned craft soda company, they represent the kind of homegrown innovation and entrepreneurial spirit that makes Oklahoma special. Their story is one of family, community, and pride in Oklahoma: values that perfectly align with the Route 66 legacy.”
John Occhipinti, co-owner of the company, said the statewide recognition strengthened their company’s legacy.
“We are honored to participate in the Oklahoma Route 66 Centennial Anniversary Celebration, which will showcase both Oklahoma and Okola-homa Soda Company to the millions of tourists expected to visit Oklahoma and other states along the infamous, mother of all roads, Route 66 in 2026,” he said.
Okola-homa Soda was founded in Edmond in 2017. Its products can be found in thousands of locations across Oklahoma, neighboring states and throughout Germany. The Netherlands, Austria, France and Italy will also stock the soda soon.
This undoubtedly will be the first of many official and unofficial Route 66 centennial commemorative products coming out this year.
The granddaddy of all Mother Road-inspired beverages is Route 66 Sodas, which has been on the market for about 30 years.
