
AAA Texas released the results of a survey that shows promising data for Route 66 this year, which is its centennial.
According to the nationwide survey, 41% of U.S. adults plan to visit some part of Route 66, with another 15% expressing interest after learning about the centennial.
It’s estimated that there are 275 million or so adults in the U.S. If the survey results are accurate, that means 110 million Americans will travel at least part of the Mother Road this year.
Among those already planning their trip:
- 63% plan to drive their personal vehicle
- 41% plan to join a group or private tour
- 29% plan to rent a car
- 21% plan to travel by motorcycle
- 18% plan to use an RV or camper
- 17% plan to fly to their destination
Most travelers say they will travel with a spouse or partner, children, or friends.

- Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica, California
- Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, Texas,
- Oklahoma Route 66 Museum in Clinton, Oklahoma
- Lou Mitchell’s Restaurant in Chicago
- Elmer’s Bottle Tree Ranch in Oro Grande, California
- Midpoint Café in Adrian, Texas
- Meramec Caverns near Stanton, Missouri
- Gateway Arch in St. Louis
- Wigwam Motels in Holbrook, Arizona, and Rialto, California
