It's a busy weekend for many roadies. First,  the Arizona Route 66 Association's 22nd annual Fun Run begins Friday. The Kingman Daily Miner has a schedule and a preview. Second, the Illinois Route 66 Red Carpet Corridor celebration in northern Illinois is Saturday and Sunday. The Pontiac Daily Leader also has a preview. It came from the 1960s

Here's a segment of former British pop princess Sandie Shaw performing Bobby Troup's "Route 66." I'm fairly certain this came from a 1960s BBC show called "The Sandie Shaw Supplement," in which she performed music based on the subject of transportation and travel.

Hello from Slovenia

Here's pianist Uros Perich and The Pearlettes doing a version of Bobby Troup's "Route 66." Perich clearly is channeling the late, great Ray Charles.

“Route 66” in space

Someone has posted orchestra leader Billy Vaughn and his Orchestra's version of "Route 66" from the 1960s TV show by the same name. That's the instrumental originally composed by Nelson Riddle, not the more-famous song written by Bobby Troup. I swear, Vaughn's version sounds like a variation of the "Star Trek" theme -- especially with … Continue reading “Route 66” in space

“Glenrio”

Here's a new video of Melissa McClelland performing "Glenrio," from her new album "Victoria Day." The song was inspired by a brief visit to Glenrio, the ghost town on Route 66 along the Texas-New Mexico border. The studio version of the song also is being streamed on her Web site. (Via Vue Weekly)

1964 Corvette restoration

Here's a slide show of a restoration of a 1964 Corvette, much like one that was driven by Tod and Buz (and Linc) during the run of the "Route 66" televisi0n series. Also, the music is "Route 66," by Nelson Riddle. I thought the pre-restoration Corvette didn't look bad at all, actually.

Frozen yogurt served by Marky Mark

The Pasadena Star-News reported on the opening of a new Blizzberry frozen-yogurt stand on Route 66 in Glendora, Calif. Blizzberry is a regional but rapidly expanding chain in Southern California. Route 66 News is always happy to plug good desserts along the Mother Road, such as Ted Drewes frozen custard to the Midpoint Cafe's ugly-crust … Continue reading Frozen yogurt served by Marky Mark
